Lon, when you mention the last of the log haulers, one you may have left out that lasted pretty late was Rayonier. Didn't they hang onto some limited steam operation until 1968 or so?
What about the several logging operations that are occasionally mentioned that connected with the DRGW such as Halleck and Howard. How late did they operate?
Speaking of Halleck and Howard which also operated at Cascade, Id. a fellow I know grew up there and said Boise Payette's railroad logging operations were using Cats to build railroad logging grades pretty late. As the guy remembered this and judging from his age, I guess he was talking about as late as the 50's maybe?
It is interesting that this topic has come up in that just a few minutes ago I got back from a work project that took my right by East Oregon Lbr. Co. Camp 10. While I have explored it many times over the years, I spent 45 min. hiking around trying to get a better handle on the layout. The camp shut down in '28 never to reopen, and all of the structures are long gone, but there is a great deal of half buried debris and a fairly complicated track layout with a loop, a wye and probably 2 pairs of sidings with a cross over and perhaps an additional spur or more.
