We all owe so much to Otto, his travels, and his astounding photographic abilities! He gave us a sense of what the rails were all about in standard gauge (3'), and broad gauge (4' 8 1/2"). His equipment was top of the line for it's day likely due to his lack of "normal" finantial commitments.
What most fail to realize is that the torch has indeed been passed. There are a few today who have continued to document the railroad scene in much the same prolific manner. I give you Jim Boyd and David P. Morgan. Jim has probably traveled as far and exposed as many images. Mr Morgan, while never exposeing a single frame of film, gave us some of the best word pictures of railroading ever set to print. I have the pleasure of calling Jim a good friend, and have had the privlage of meeting Mr. Morgan on more than one occasion. I know for fact that Jim considers Otto Perry a hero. I am thankful for the efforts of ALL of them. There are a few nameless (because I might forget one) contributors to this forum that are in the process of entering the same category. Thank you ALL!!!
