No, .. I meant nothing inappropriate toward Otto. If anyone said I was "normal", I'd be offended! Eccentricity vs. "normal"? I'll take the character of eccentricity any day over boring old "normal" !!!!
I have long marveled at how he and a few others traversed what were NASTY roads (if there were roads at all) to take photos of what would have been as common as japanese cars today. It was a HUGE effort, and one that had zero payoff. Afterall, steam railroading was common as dirt! Some of those areas are a real bitch to get into even today. Imagine what it was like in 1930! Wonder how long it took him to drive from Denver to Durango back then? His neighbors must have though he'd lost his marbles. We all benefit hugely for his behavior that must have seemed *whacko* at the time. That was the reason for the questions, ... what made this guy tick? wish that I had had the chance to take one of those trips with him and just hear what came out of his mouth. I am sure it would have been interesting!
