I think the railfans in this photo taken 08/29/67 include John Gruber and his son, but I'm not positive:
I do know that John Gruber had ridden a freight from Alamosa to Chama the previous day, and was in Chama on the morning of the 29th before returning to Alamosa on that day's eastbound freight. IIRC, John West was also in town that morning. See the thread starting at [ngdiscussion.net] for more photos and 'The Rest of the Story.'
