Thank you, Roger -
Just for giggles, here are just a few more. Note that these too are neither C&TS nor even Narrow Gauge. OTOH, to avoid offending the NGDF hard core they are quite well hidden near the bottom of a rather obscure thread
. . .
There was a good crowd waiting at the Alamosa Depot when the 'Rails & Ales' train pulled up to the platform; engineer John Charles oiled around his locomotive while the passengers boarded
:
In addition to controlling his fire, Earl Knoob kept busy running the injector and sanding the flues while John Charles adjusted the throttle as the grade changed
:
For the first time since 1976 I got to fire a hard-running engine. Earl had trimmed the injector so that the water level stayed pretty constant, but I needed a lot of advice using the firing valve to keep the pressure between 190 and 200 pounds
:
It was a beautiful day for the beer fest at Fir; the tiny patches on the back side of Mount Blanca was the only snow I saw during my ten days in "Narrow Gauge Country" in July, 2012 — quite different from the situation as I edit this post in June, 2019
:
The big curve below Fir gave me a final chance for a photo as the train headed home to Alamosa after the party
:
THANK YOU EARL, JOHN and the SL&RG / Rio Grande Scenic Railway for a FABULOUS day!!!
