Re: Chasing 484, 487, and 498 with Ernie and Joe Hereford on June 30, 1967

It seems that I never got the next set of slides scanned, so may add those later, so we are jumping ahead to the S-curves above Cresco.





At Cumbres 498 and caboose uncoupled from the train and turned on the wye while 484 pulled the train into the siding. 498 then proceeded to make up a short work train of two gondola loads of cinders that had been brought up by the westbound train the day before, and setting out an empty gondola.



While 498 is setting out the empty gon, 484 is backing toward the wye.



In this Ernie Robart photo (from "The Final Years Alamosa to Chama") 484 is exiting the snow shed after turning on the wye, and 498 has finished making up her short work train. 484 will light engine to Chama, and 498 will follow with the work train.
