Re: "Recruiting" photographers to post historic photos

Russo Loco suggested that since he did some serious arm twisting to get me to post historic photos on the NGDF, it is now my turn to do some of that arm twisting to "new" recruits. First I should say that I am really grateful to Russo Loco for convincing me to get out those old files and to get them to a postable condition. I was pretty reluctant to start posting at first, as are a number of other rail fans that were around when the Rio Grande still ran trains on the narrow gauge. After all, it is pretty easy to think of all kinds of reasons not to do it. In my case, the great thing is that the NGDF gave me an incentive to get into files, photos, and negatives that I had seldom or never thought about for decades. Many negatives, for example had never been printed and were just stored since dark room work ended many years ago. At least, with Russo Loco's scanning help, a fair number of views have actually been seen for the first time only recently - and only thru the incentive of posting on the NGDF. Posting has also been an incentive to recall the stories that go with the photos. Getting more people to share their photos and stories while their memories are still fresh would be great. I for one would love to see their photos and hear those stories. One fan with an amazing set of photos and adventures told me that people on the NGDF don't care about "old " pictures and events, so he won't post on the NGDF. As far as I can see, there are a lot of people on the NGDF who have widely divergent interests, and I suspect that there is a lot more interest than one can determine from simple "score keeping". So I will make some extra effort at "recruiting", as time inevitably keeps marching on.
