Here is another photo of 278 in Montrose in August 1959. It is hard to tell any changes between 1959 and the current restoration. BTW, after 315 started running semi routinely on DSNG and CTS, there was some discussion by some DRHS members about another restoration project to join 315, the obvious candidate being 278. The contractor performing the 278 restoration stated (as I understand it) that for an extra 300,00 dollars he could extend the restoration effort to bring 278 to operating condition. Obviously no one came up with 300,000 dollars and if they had, there would have been numerous obstacles to actually make it happen. Still, it was an intriguing thought and perhaps it may have involved some assessment of 278's mechanical condition.
