From the west, Squaw Creek joins the Cimarron River, that comes in from the east, about the location of Hwy 50. The Cimarron continues north, through the canyon to join the Gunnison in the Black Canyon.

The display is south of the junction of the two rivers so it is on the Cimarron River.
