I've posted this before but I'll repeat it.
The first time I saw 278 on the bridge I had no idea it was there. I had talked my dad into going down the bit of road from Cimarron to the damned dam so I could see what little remained of the West entrance to the Black Canyon line (the East end had to wait for several more years, until I was out on my own.) We came around the corner and there she was. I was impressed. And surprised, I thought she was still on display in Montrose (campaign to stop & see her was under way too) where she'd been when some family pictures of my sibs climbing on her had been taken in the late 1950's, before my time. I thought she looked really cool up there. I still do, there's a print of a picture I took of her about 19 years ago, framed so you (mostly) can't see that the approaches are missing, on the wall above the table I'm sitting at right now.
I also wonder, how long would the bridge last if the 278 & train were put elsewhere?
