The National Park Service did a lot of research at the CRRM. I helped a bit, but most of their information was found by John Tudek. We showed them pictures of the various Cimarron structures. I suggested that there was a water tank at Bondad, Colorado that needed saving. I first helped Bill Jones do the original cosmetic restoration in the early 70s. We made the D&RGW herald stencils in my living room by projecting a slide of a On3 decal on the wall and tracing it. We found later that there were better copies of original stencils.
Walking out to the engine on the bridge was hairy when I was 44 years old, I will be 80 next week and don't think I will try it again. Of course for some punks with spray cans it would just be an adventure.
