I live here. The Branding Iron is a fine place. Never heard a complaint. I always recommend Roger's Hotel and Shops, he has the best view, and -heavily- supports the railroad, and has the shop down below-
Note- his rooms are up a flight of stairs, a concern to the walking impaired like me.
I lived at the Chama Trails Inn for 90 days when I first moved here, and was treated like family. Couldn't say enough good things about Starla and Chester's place. Chester does the cowboy reenactments with Bob Ross and Bob Conry, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable.
Other than the Y Motel, which -is- a flophouse, all the places here are pretty decent (by my bachelor standards, anyway...)
If you haven't booked now, get on it. Holidays like Labor Day are already probably booked -everywhere-, and you'll wind up in considerably more expensive Pagosa Springs.
