I am always amazed at those who see such things almost as if they were moral issues; as if one way is "right" and one way is "wrong". If the paint scheme & stack are historically accurate for a given time period on the D&RGW, what is the harm in temporarily representing that period by retrofitting the locomotive? The D&RGW was driven by the profit motive, they are the ones to be accused of profaning the K-28s (or whatever you want to call it). The D&SNG is attempting to appeal to a variety of interests, not just to the narrow minded railfan....
Nevertheless, not everyone has to like it, I just recommend a less judgmental attitude. My first experience with the Narrow Guage was in 1970 behind #473, fake stack and all. Although I personally think the 470's look more handsome with the shotgun stacks, the fake stacks do bring back some pleasant memories for me.
Please do not interpret this as a personal attack, it is not intended as such. I, for one, was pleasantly suprised after returning to this board following a few months absence (due to major changes in my life) to see Jerry Day posting once again. I remember enjoying his informational posts back in the early days of this board, and being disappointed at his absence later on. Welcome back, Jerry. I guess I just need someone to explain to me what is so bothersome about having a little fun with 473? She's had a hard life ... whats wrong with a little color on her cheeks??
