There was also a museum of aviation close by, with the history of the airport, and airplanes, with many a/c models. It was lovely. NOBODY EVER USED IT, and it was decommissioned and converted back to a revenue generating space..
Bo, we are dealing with a different situation in Chama from old Stapleton. People who go to an airport to fly or to meet others are there for that reason only and only wish to spend as little time as possible and then go on their way. That's the way modern transportation is.
When people come through Chama, they are usually on vacation for a day or longer and can make an opportunity to stay and linger if the attraction is close by and available. With a train departing or arriving only once per day, those that show up at 11:00 a.m. or noon take a quick look around, think "too bad I missed it" and go on their way. If a museum/visitor center was there, they could see what they missed and maybe make plans for a return trip. So in that respect, it is very important to growing awareness and ridership. Again, it's imperative that the location be close by but not intrude on the historical area. That's the rub and some compromise and decision will have to be made that minimizes impacts.
