I agree to an extent. My concern is not so much what the building will look like, but the location. I'm sure that the Friends have something in mind which will be compatible with the existing structures, but that's not the point. Location, location, location !!!!! The historic structure of the entire complex can be irretrievably compromised if the proposed building is sited in the wrong place.
As I stated above, my vote would be for down near the station. With the new engine shop, et al, already there, the new building would not do much further damage. But wherever it, or any other new structure, is placed it will have an impact on the historical fabric of the entire yard complex. We must never, never, lose sight of that.
Fortunately we now do have an extra layer of protection in the form of the newly established National Historic Site designation. Perhaps that will help us.
