Thanks to all who have voiced there views on this thread. I began with questions and some thoughts, and now I hear many good viewpoints and some questions have been answered.
Being one of you, I must acknowledge my own personal bias I share with all of you.
We are all passionate about Chama and the narrow gauge. With this bias comes some danger however.
John Cole made an excellent point when he raised the question of how many would really use the museum. Most of us might guess at 30% of the revenue passengers would, and we would toss in a few others just passing by.
In the real world however, we have to take our bias and slash the number in half, to be realistic. Perhaps 15%? Then, we have to continue with a cost/benefit analysis...and try to control our wishful thinking and reign in our passion and bias. Other questions then arise.
What will be the operational cost of maintaining this visitor center and where will that money come from.
I guess I feel the questions of "should it be built, and where?" are just the first of a series of hard nosed questions that must be asked...and answered.
Thanks again, for sharing your perspectives.
