Besides those red coaches will really stand out against the fresh snow, eh!! Might be cold in them though without heat.
All kidding aside, I would like to see them try to run some operations longer in the year, even if it means cutting back the mileage to do so. If they could keep the railroad open to say Los Pinos from Chama, imagine the potential revenue for Holiday trains for several weeks in Nov-Dec.
All that is required is a flanger or plow-equipped engine to keep it open until the heavy stuff gets there after New Year normally. Snow is a lot easier to clear when its not that old frozen stuff left over from the entire winter.
Run some winter passenger runs, and the guys who want to do charters will show up with some proposals as well, to make it worthwhile. Just a thought. As Mr. West says the D&S folks do it (operate) routinely all winter long.
