This same picture appears on page 153 of "Rocky Mountain Railroads, Volume II (by Dorman). He doesn't give a date and is confused if the cars are C&S or D&RGW. I think I can barely read a C&S initial in the upper left hand corner of the boxcar. I cannot make out a car number.
I would vote for the picture being taken in 1938 being unloaded in route to the RGS (via the D&RGW n.g. over Marshall Pass and Cerro Summit to Montrose, and then down to Ridgway.)
The pictures in "Sunset on the RGS" show RGS cars and engines being loaded at Montrose on their way out to Knott's Berry Farm and Boulder, Colo.in the 1950's.
