If this was taken when the Monarch branch was regauged, wouldn't the bulk of the cars (maybe all of them) be gons?
This could be cars going from Salida to Alamosa ca. 1955 after the Marshall Pass line was closed (the Valley Line having been pulled up a few years before).
Or it could indeed be cars from the C&S coming from Denver to Salida ca. 1940 to be forwarded to the RGS via Ridgway or Durango.
