A couple of comments concerning IPH's position: Like Kyle Ry's, IPH knows it will not make a bundle of $$$. This simple fact is they want to see this priceless historic artifact survive and prosper. By being able to network expences and resources, certain economies can be had that a stand alone company cannot create. IPH is interested in the long term. This year is a one year agreement, but IPH wants a long term situation.
Please note that while I am an employee of IPH, none of thier principals had anything to do with post (they are all asleep, I just got back from a run over La Veta and OUGHT to be asleep). Hopefully none of them will get pissed off at me for it.
Kyle Ry's was not a tourist railroad operator. In fact only the C&TS and the LK&P in Hawaii were tourist roads. All of thier other properties were freight roads. Some handled passenger traffic as a sideline, but on those roads the frieght biz paid the bills, the passenger trains were a fun sideline. Still Kyle was run by a group of good railroaders who knew the real reason they were involved in the C&TS was not the almighty dollar, but a much deeper reason. IPH feels the same way.
