Aw Hell, Sam, that's an easy one.
If the RGRPC really gave a damn about the depot, then go to the UP and lease or purchase it. When the UP has a redundant structure like that, it can get tax credits for donating it.
Then, instead of going for trackage rights, get an easement to run a parallel track to the main line long enough for a train, and with enough room to build a chain-link fence in between the UP and C&TS tracks. The UP's interest would be protected, the C&TS would have a Truly historic Depot, and parking could be arranged on the C&TS side.
Sam, forget about the trackage rights to Alamosa, the rail trip is a boring as the drive, promote Antonito instead. And Improve the track to the west of Antonito so the tourists can get to the "Scenery" quicker.
I agree that Antonito has gotten the short end of the stick. Chama seems to be "Ground Zero". It's high time to put some facilities other than a two stall engine house in Antonito.
The more popular that both towns are, the more the railroad will benefit.
