Last summer several of us met with the NM SHPO, and I have spoken with the CO SHPO. We prepared a workbook looking at a number of prototype D&RGW structures, analysing the form and scale of these buildings, and potential locations. I think the SHPO's would support storage based on the schemes illustrated in the work book. (trains are BIG so these buildings are REALLY BIG) The favored location in Antonito was alongside the RIP track near Fort Knox. There is also a great deal of real-estate available to the south and east for the right price. In addition, there has been a good bit of planning done for a Car Repair Facility in Chama. The site selected for this after many, many meetings was south of the scale track between the yard and the road near the grove of trees.
Of course, the events of last fall drastically shifted the focus of the Friends to the survival of the railroad.
