Speaking of the East Broad Top, way back about 1965, someone at the EBT came to the realization that storing their wonderful old Billmeyer & Small coaches in the old carshop building was an invitation for disaster. Mr. Kovalchcik located a bunch of old steel trusses, had walls built to make them tall enough for railroads cars to fit in, and Voila! Fireproof storage. I don't think anyone in this thread is talking about enough covered storage for everything in Chama. Seems to me what is needed is a three or four track shed with enough space for about 5 or 6 cars on each track. Put the freight cars on the outside tracks and the passenger stock on the inside ones. Keep the sun off 'em in summer and snow off in winter. A couple of such open-sided sheds out past the wye would do the trick, or perhaps down behind the shop. If that area is a flood plain, what happened in the D&RGW days? I agree that agricultural pole sheds would be adequate to protest the cars from the elements, and perhaps a portion of one could be walled off as a car shop area. Doesn't need to hold more than about two cars -- or else too many projects will get started and none will be completed.
