One of the fastest tracks was Gunnison to Sargents. A retired D&RGW engineer who worked out of Gunnison from 1915 to 1954 told me that he often ran T12s and later K28s at 50 mph when behind schedule. The speeds indicated in timetables were often exceeded when running late.

John Maxwell told of chasing a Rocky Club trip with a K28 from Antonito to Alamosa at near 60 mph. He was stopped by the Colorado Highway Patrol near La Jara and did not get to follow it all the way.
