It's stuff like this that causes me to no longer be a Friends member, even though the Friends have a lot of good people. The Friends are too much involved in playing trains and not enough is preserving history. Back in the days of Kyle we had folks like Earl, John Bush, and Dan Ranger, just to mention a few, that paid attention to history. And they worked for the OPERATOR. History was preserved AND the railroad was well run. But those folks had the knowledge and the appreciation to do things in a historically sensitive way. Today....we have a lot of well meaning people, but with a few exceptions they don't have the knowledge or dedication to preserving history, they would rather play trains. Preservation is hit or miss...some things get done well and other things are just ignored. The Friends are supposed to be the advocates for historic preservation, and they are good at the individual projects, but they don't seem to have any appreciation for the bigger picture.
