Sorry for the delayed reply to your post Ryan. Been busy. This picture could be that "some guy from Japan"....Mr. Sam Furukawa. He is indeed a true friend of the narrow gauge and the C&TS in particular. His new book on the C&TS showcases his excellent photography skills. He is a key figure in the Narrow Gauge Preservation Foundation which is where the funds you heard about for 463 are most likely coming from. I have not heard anything official yet, just yard talk along the same lines. Sam was having a terrific time on opening day and I couldn't resist snapping his picture from the train more than once. He had the same ear-to-ear smile I had.
A truly honorable gentleman.
Be sure and buy his book, it is well worth every penny. I ended up with two copies, one pre-pub order and the other an autographed copy I bought from Bob Zorn in Chama. Try the Trackside Emporium (Bob Zorn) or Caboose Hobbies.
Sam is exchanging greetings with C&TS Conductor Alan Loomis at Cumbres Pass.
