I agree with the post saying it would be nice to see a rotary run again. What I believe the C&TS discovered, however, is that running the rotary through snow that has melted and refrozen into ice is most definitely not a good thing. I believe they are wise to use dozers to open the line in spring for that very reason. So, I doubt that we will see a rotary used for that purpose again. But a winter run with the rotary would be something to see.
Fritz, I'm glad to hear that 493 is getting some badly needed TLC. As I posted, earlier, it's a "pet" engine of mine that I last saw under steam 40 years ago. I'd love to see it run again in my lifetime. I also remember when those rotting cars at Tacoma were actually in pretty good shape back in the '60's. The last time I saw them they looked like they would fall apart if somebody even touched them.
492 would be an interesting engine to see run again, too. Among its other claims to fame is that it has a scrapped K-37's smokebox (490) that it acquired after hitting a mondo rock in Navajo canyon.
