Thanks for the clarifiaction on the "asbestos" issue concerning OY and OM. I did not mean to imply that they could not be run because they have asbestos boiler lagging, merely that IF the boiler would need to be looked at or repaired then the nefarious material would be a problem. We are certainly hoping that mechanically the OY is in good shape. Still, the wood project will be extensive, that being said, there is MUCH interest in getting OY in shape to be available to run for special events.
Agreeably, opening the line in the spring seems to be too hard on the rotaries for all the reasons previously discussed here and elsehwere and due to the wear and tear it puts on the big machines is probably not all that advisable as they age. But what about rotary specials earlier in the winter season before the snow banks become rock-hard? Perhaps combined with a Jordan spreader snow run. Something to look forward to mid-winter, maybe.
