Is there any possiblity, since the railroad is owned by the states, that state employee benefits programs might be set up for the employees? I know they work for RGRPC but on a state-owned entity and there may be provision for such a plan for employees of state contractors?
I really do think the previous poster was correct. The railroad does seem to at least be holding its own in a year when the economy is in the toilet and when every other tourist-based operation is hurting.
Remember, 18 months ago there was a major question of the railroad even surviving into this century. Survive they did but just barely. It is going to take a long time to get back to where we were under Kyle. To make a 'hold your own' stand in the face of a national economy that is bordering on recession is pretty significant evidence that some things are being done right.
I look for the RGRPC to make it work and when it does I hope the first thing they do is benefit their employees. The railroad can't work without them and, God love 'em, they've done a tremendous job.
