Michael, forget any benefit from the 'extra fare' cars. The Chama Parlour car is losing money like crazy. The increases are NOT yet there, and 55,000 passengers is still a break-even year. 542 passengers rode toay. If that kind of day continues I will be optimistic that we can make it to 55,000 or more. But the CTSRR will NEVER be self-sufficient unless some drastic changes are made in the way the whole operation is conducted.
The railroad is and will continue to be, dependent upon cubic dollars from the states- every year. Remember that this year even THAT money is tied up by the Governor of New Mexico, to the tune of around $800K.
There are other problems contributing to the morale issue, but I really do not want to get into those online.
