Right Roger, you can see the last wooden n\g coal tipple, sand house, double spout water tank, oil loading racks and oil tank cars. You can watch the engines being readied, for the morning train, and watch it steam past.
What are you going to see on the south end? Boxcars, and other r/r cars. Nothing moves over there. Now you tell me, which end is going to offer more "sizzle" to entice would be train riders? One thing to remember is that there is, and has never been anything historic there, EVER!
You can complain about the view with a visitor's center, but it will not look any less historic than the weed cover hillside that is now there. I would bet that about most pictures taken looking south wouldn't even show it, because it is that far over to the side. It isn't like their paving over the yard here guys. It is a VERY minor addition to a far away corner of the yard that most people here never even thought about until the RVC proposal.
