Hi John:
I am just trying to understand the operations from a business point of view i.e. “if you owned it” how would you run it most efficiently without regard to any political meddling? Granted a train lays over in Antonito each night currently, but is a shop for the overnight hostling of one engine a good use of limited resources? Further, are you aware that the Commission is having a new car shop built in Antonito? So now we will have 2 carshops (1 for the Friends + 1 for the Commission) and one shop/engine house in Antonito. Then we have one engine facility in Chama and the Friends propose to build a second Car shop in Chama plus 65,000 Sq. feet of covered car storage. And lest we forget while we are employing all the contractors in Rio Arriba and Conejos counties building all this stuff don’t forget the Friends new Chama Visitors center coming soon....
John, why wouldn’t it be a more efficient plan to just buy the old lumber yard property in Chama and build a first class locomotive backshop and car repair facility all in one? Seems to me like a modern facility in Chama would result in improved productivity/ through put that would rapidly return its investment in reduced operational costs vs. all the separate shops?
