Rod, a couple of things...

It is hard to understand why Exuc. Director Leo Schmitz didn’t bring up the study done by the commission that he was involved in back in 1999 which showed a $42 million economic impact to the local economies from the RR...
While I certainly second your call for the commission and its executive director to be the biggest proponents the RR has, given the obvious "quality" of reporting here, it's hard to know exactly what Mr. Schmitz (or anyone else for that matter) might or might not have said. This has the strong flavor of a reporter arranging facts to fit a pre-conceived notion.
But here's why I really broke in on the discussion:

Perhaps NM should revisit a buy-out of the CO portion of the compact as they seem to have the desire and means to do something beyond the lip service we have seen from CO.
I literally cringe everytime I hear someone suggest this as desirable. Sure, NM currently has both the political will and financial wherewithal to support the RR, but the politics and financial resources of the two states are nothing if not fluid. There have been times in the past when it was easier to get funding from Colorado, and there may well be again. I'd far rather see folks work to increase Colorado funding than to throw all of the RR's eggs into one changeable basket.
