A couple of comments: The "hostler" control stand that was in the F"B" units is in the center right below the or one of the center porthole windows. It had a independent brake valve and a Control stand that would allow for moving the one unit; no transition or MU capability. If a consist was double ended it was more than likely to eliminate the need for a Wye or turntable to turn the consist. they just ran around it. As far as the protocall for the PA "B" unit being mid consist, I have heard a couple reasons offered up by RG mechanical folks, but don't recall what they were. It might be as simple as the adjoining F-B's being set up as water supply for the steam gens in the Alco. Andy
