Good summary, and basically you are right. I was there with Terry Ross when the cars were selected. We tried to select representative examples off all of the car types, plus those special cars I previously mentioned.
We went heavy on the boxcars after discovering the waist high wainscotting on the inside of the cars. A light bulb went off. A few minutes work with a saw would open up the car and make the beginnings of what is now called "rider boxes".
