Estrella, Boneyard of the Narrow Gauge

November 22, 2006 07:25PM
480,
At the end of operations, and after cars identified and marked for the C&TS were cut out of the herd, many, many narrow gauge cars were taken down the line a few miles to Estrella, where they were unceremoniously burned. When all the wood was burned away, a bulldozers came in and pushed all the metal parts into a pile where they were then loaded onto trucks and hauled off for scrap. This was right off the right of way, and a shocking sight for anyone who wished more of this stuff to be preserved.
