Frank, I don't know about the "native soil" aspect of the C&TS ROW, but I would sumrise that as much "updating" and improvement of the ROW as possible would be extremely desireable when it comes to having less wear and tear on locomotives, rolling stock and track, not to mention increased safety for passengers and crews. This is an area, I believe, where practicality takes precedence over historical accuracy. That said, I think wood ties are preferable and, because of the relatively light traffic on the line, probably just as safe as concrete ties. -- Ed
