Rod,
I understand what you are saying and I agree with almost all of it with a couple of caveats.
First, the business with the lettering. In order to be a "heritage railway" the equipment AND the name of the railroad should be the same as what it was in the past if I understand correctly. So what's it gonna be? Does the C&TSRR re-incorporate as the Denver and Rio Grande or the Denver and Rio Grande WESTERN? (I'd vote for the D&RGW)
It's more than just lettering the engines and rolling stock on an historic steam railroad. If that was all then the Huckleberry's lettering of the #464 would be a violation with UP. (As a matter of fact, I do believe that they got permission from UP in order to letter #464 that way.)
Since we're speaking of the UP, this brings up my second issue. While the Union Pacific will allow various objects to be lettered with "fallen flags", I seriously doubt that they would allow a railroad to CALL ITSELF the Denver & Rio Grande Western as that is still a LEGAL entity within the UP! That's all I was saying.
Third, while historic preservation is always an admirable goal, this nit-picking about what is "heritage railroad" accuracy seemed just to much! I KNOW what kind of dedication to historical preservation that the Friends are advocating. Perhaps I read too much into that initial post and misunderstood it's meaning but I still think that this kind of nit-picking is counter-productive ESPECIALLY at a time like right now! Just my thoughts...
