Now that I think on it, We (D&RGW Comm Department)had stopped maintaining the line after about 1965.
It was intact then, but we discontinued maintenance and cut the road crossings down for safety about then on the line west of Chama. The RR used the commercial telephone to Durango for
whatever train order operations were needed after that. The line east of Chama was operated until the end in '69. I was sent down there in '67 and made a motorcar trip over the road to examine the line for inventory/condition purposes and it was still being used then, but maintenance was nil.
It had for all practical purposes all been abandoned by that time.
