I very much Like the C & T I have ridden it 8 or 9 times (BTW I live in Maryland) I have ridden from Chama to Antonito only once, that was enough, From Antonito to Chama the start through the desolate area around Antonito is interesting since you are just getting used to the train ride and it gets better all day culminating in the Chama yard . The one time I rode from Chama I realized I had seen all the really good scenery and still had an hour and a half ride to go. I think had I had another 1 or 2 hours back to Alamosa I might have been bored to tears . I have ridden from Chama to Osier and back to Chama several times but I don't think I would ever recommend riding Antonito to Antonito to anybody. Although I must admit the scenery is excellent except out on the almost desert near Antonito..
By the way I usually Ride the D&S each time both ways I find it boring also coming back to Durango but would never take the bus. Most years I also drive the RGS
