There is no purpose to rebuild this section, although there are more folks to draw from and more motels in Alamosa. The only people who would benefit would be us fans, and thats not reason enough. As others said it would be a boring ride at 15-20 mph along the highway. Now in the sixties chasing a doubleheader freight at 30-35 was okay, but nowadays the tourists would be bored with the ride, and the costs and extra mileage on engines would not pay-off.
Now since eveyone else has wild ideas, how about this tongue-in-cheek one. Make Alamosa to Antonito a High Speed standard gauge connection. Ride down to Antonito at 60 MPH, and then you are there in 30 minutes. Then the folks can take the relaxed NG trip to Chama!
Enough dreaming of sugar plums and third rails. I like the idea of re-using the Antonito Depot though!
