Doug,
Just leave the adjectives off, and stop trying to make people believe a model 44 ton GE locomotive is a failure because of a few derailment on bad track on the Farmington branch. All diesels had the same problems when they came out onto steam only trackage. The linked suspension system of the steam locomotive and also the PRR GG1 electric (and P-5) was superior to any diesel trucks and could ride over any bad track. I had ten diesel derailment in a weekend at Enola, PA and not one GG-1 derailment in two years on the same track. Were those diesels a failure? I knew all about the supposed reports you quoted when I challenged you remembrances. Please, keep opinions to just that. Just reviewed my movies of the unit doing fine switching duty at Skagway in 1974, and had recordings of the Cooper/Besmears engine. A odd looking brute. PRR
