Therein lies the dilema, or at least the challenge. If we were running the Silverton I would simply agree with Wayne completely. But one of the ideocyncracies of the C&TS and the Friends is we like to think we're running an operating museum. Now "museum" is probably one of the more abused words in our langauge. But assuming we're serious about the interpretation and education part, I would suggest that trying to preserve and interpret the "culture" of a steam powered railroad is equally as important as preserving the hard assets. But far more difficult. So far the C&TS has managed to do an amazingly good job of it for 30 years. I'm even foolishly optimisic enough to think we can do it while still giving the customers an entertaining and pleasant experience, by being very selective about what we change and what don't change.
