One of the reasons Chama is real, is that whatever master plans as might have existed remained mostly on paper. What makes me nervous is we need a master plan, but only because the alternatives are worse. The "progress" virtually inherent in a master plan is what threatens the reality of the existing railroad. To hold Williamsburg up as a model is to accept playacting and false fronts. I hope we can do better than that, but maybe that is an inevitable compromise. "Progress" is a demon that will be difficult to control....but it will happen. But maybe if we're lucky we can delay and mitigate.
Enjoy Chama now because it is unlikely to remain "real" for long. But perhaps we can keep it better than the other places.
