I agree with Mikky . A "full service" tourist r.r. like Strasburg or the D$S makes it a better family experience(read:easier to ditch the old lady,in-laws and curtain crawlers for a couple of hours while you railfan). They make enough bucks to properly maintain their operation ,equipment and collection . But for authenticity ,.nothing beats the C&T . That however ,may be its problem .Chama is unchanged ,and to put it diplomatically ,it's "primitive" I have met precious few women who enjoyed vacationing in Chama(yeah ,I know somebody will chime in "my wife loves it" but don't believe it!). Chama is still "railroading's last good place" ,even if it is planted in a benighted district that can best be described as "Third World Lite". Maybe it is that way precisely because of where it is .
