Perhaps a title like "NG and Shortline Forum" would best explain an expansion of the forum. I agree with Jeff that a lot of the short lines were transportations for mining and timber concerns. NG was chosen due to terrain and cost. Although many NG's would like to have been std. could they have afforded it. And, like you said Brett, there always seems to have been that NG<->Std. gauge connection in one way or another. I remember that the SVRy had aspirations to continue southward to connect with the NCO. Of course that never happened, but the std. gauge Oregon and Northwestern used the route from Hines to Summit Praire that the SVRy would most likely have taken had they gone on from Praire City southward.
I'd like to hear Don R.'s comments since he may have seen this discussion in the past, or considered this item in the past.
