Thanks for the update, Coke.
You may not have seen Charlie's last post in which he reported that he is not allowed to share any information good or bad at this time.
Someone, I think Josh McNeal, reported that 476 had been in the museum part of the roundhouse earlier this season. As I recall, either he or Charlie said there is not enough room in the remaining area of the roundhouse for storage of all the locomotives, so one would be rotated into the museum while it awaited repairs, and that it is 476's turn. No other information on this fine old engine's condition was provided.
If true, this engine sounds like she will be out of service for a long time, and it will be an expensive and difficult project.
I have reported here before that 476 was Bob Shock's pet, and always got the best of care during his watch. When Andy Payne became senior engineer on the Silverton Branch, he still seemed to want to run his old pal, the 473 most of the time.
If I had to claim one of the K series engines as my personal favorite, it would be 476. When I watched that engine running only a few feet outside our car window as we paced the train southbound along "Narrow Gauge Ave" in Durango on a family vacation in 1966, it changed me forever.
My On3 model of that engine is one of my most prized things in the world. Queen of my fleet, too.
