Mea Culpa, William -

I should have mentioned specifically that my monitor is wide enough to display the image resized by the NGDF (or the browser) to its max of 1024 (2¹⁰) pixels, so I am seeing a good 1:1 comparison; It's VERY unlikely that your phone is displaying anywhere near as many pixels as your monitor, so there was some additional compression going on to make the photos fit, probably a lot more than for your monitor.  (How wide IS your monitor, btw — if more than 1024 pixels wide you are probably seeing a pretty good rendition of both photos.)
