So here are two 5X enlargements of screen captures of the same areas of the upper display and the lower display. I still can't pique out any discernible difference

I should probably go back to the original .tif file and make new .jpg copies without the Unsharp Mask for a truer comparison, but Olaf's camera in those days wasn't much sharper than the one I was carrying, so I really don't think it's worth the effort.* IMHO, uploading smaller files wins, if only because it makes life easier for our friends like Glenn and Olaf who don't have fast internet connections.

* On second thought, now it's your turn, Olaf. Take one of those nice crisp b&w photos of a beautifully maintained East German or Czechoslovakian steam locomotive taken with your newer camera and post it both ways - as a 3600×2400 jpeg of around 2.4 MB size, and also as a 1020×680 jpeg at about 250K, so we can see if there's enough difference to worry about
