Well Beta was sharper than VHS, so you really made the right call, until nobody sold them any more and everything was VHS. The blu-ray quality is just about what you see off the camera, so its really nice. I know some maybe don't want to spend the extra $5.00 for blu-ray, but remember they cost a bit more, and the quality is noticeable. Good luck with your machines. VHS decks are selling higher on the web now cause they are in demand with none being made any more. Investing in a VHS wet cleaning tape might be wise, to clean the machines heads. You would get a bottle and put a few drops on a cassette with the cleaner tape, and run it for 5-10 seconds.
Also find the tracking adjustment on the machine. Sometimes the tracking can be off on either the VHS machine, or an individual tape.
